A common technique you will find utilized in hand pipes is called Fuming, it is also referred to as Color changing Glass – glass blowers will place a small piece of 999 silver or pure Gold in their flame in front of their glass piece. When done properly, the off gas of these materials will stick to the glass creating a metallic swirly affect with varying colors. Silver produces yellow and blue smoky colors where gold will produce pink and purple coloring. As you smoke out of your piece the look of the pipe will change because of the buildup of resin allows more of the colors in the metallic fuming to appear.

Double Blown, is a term that has been used to describe mega thick glass. The basic function of a water pipe is to have the smoke pass through water, before it reaches your lips, delivering a smooth cooling effect. It’s very important to keep these pieces clean. Letting resin build up and sit in water can be very harmful to your lungs, depositing unwanted bacteria. Taking good care of your water pipe and changing the water regularly will result in a much healthier and better tasting smoking experience.
